  • Congratulations, Jeffry Craanen and Simon Webber, for winning the Karori Intermediate on Sunday.
  • Congratulations, Russell Dive and partner, for coming in 2nd place in the Levin Open on Sunday.
  • On Friday we had the quiz night. 1st place went to Paul Brownes Golden Gate team. 2nd place to Anne Martins Inverted Minors team and 8th place and best dressed team went to Janet Paape’s 50 shades of Stayman team.
    Thank you to everyone who donated prizes; it was greatly appreciated and made the event very successful. We raised $1740
  • Wellington Bridge Club is hosting its open tournament on Sunday, 27 July, and is keen to receive more entries.
  • Congratulations to the lotto winner Kathy Graves, with lucky number 39.

  • Congratulations to the following teams on their wins at Interclub on Friday night: open restricted teams captained by Jeffry Craanen and David Haines, intermediate team captained by Margaret Carter, junior team captained by Toni Kane and the novice team captained by Stephanie Grummitt. Well done to these five teams. The next round for Interclub is on 1 August.
  • Wellington Regional Club Championship 2025:
    Congratulations Marian Loader and Eleisha Hawkins, who came top in the Intermediate grade. The Hutt team came 4th overall.
  • Quiz Night is on Friday, the 18th of July, at 7:00 PM, so get your team together and have a great night.
    • We have 8 teams entered so far, so get your team in, put your entry on the noticeboard
    • We would love for you to donate something for prizes, even if you can’t make the event. There is a box in the foyer for your donations
    • Let Ruth know if you want to be in a team

  • Sad news today as Kum Arumugam, a past Club member, passed away last Saturday. Kum’s funeral is on Tuesday, 10 July, 10 am at Gee and Hickton, Lower Hutt.
  • Congratulations to David Haines and Simon Webber, who won the morning session prize, and Eleisha Hawkins and AJ, who won the afternoon session prize at the Kairangi Intermediate tournament over the weekend.
  • NZ Ranking Report. NZ Bridge periodically publishes NZ Player rankings for the year. This year to date, Marian Loader is running 10th in at Provincial Master level; Genevieve Pronk is running 10th at Club Master level, and Stephanie Grummitt is running 2nd at Certificate of Proficiency level. Congratulations, Marian, Genevieve and Stephanie – well done!

  • Otaki Multi-grade Tournament was held on Sunday. Congratulations to:
    - Jacob Pilalis and David Haines, who were 2nd overall and top Junior pair
    - Eleisha Hawkins and Alan Glant, the best open and intermediate who top ped in the second session
  • King’s Birthday Pairs are being held on Monday, 2 June (next week). It will be a fun afternoon–high tea, prizes for the best royal regalia. Come with a partner and a plate for a shared afternoon tea.
  • Saturday’s Fashion and Style workshop was a great success – about 80 attendees and raised over $2500 for the club's carpet fund. Thanks a million to Janet Paape and her helpers.
  • Interclub

  • THE FLU SEASON
    The flu season is upon us, and COVID is still with us, so a timely reminder of our responsibility to the health of our fellow members might be timely. If you have a cough, cold or other flu-like symptoms, please stay away or, at least, wear a mask. Thank you for your help and understanding.

  • Congratulations to Eleisha Hawkins and Walt Davis for winning a session prize, the Upper Hutt Multi Grade.
  • Inter Club
    Congratulations to the following teams on their wins: the Restricted Open Jeffery Craanen team, the Intermediate Jill Marsden team, the Trish Mahoney team, the Novice team, Stephanie Grummitt, and the Steve Molotsky team. Congratulations to the following teams for drawing Restricted Open: David Haines teams, Walt Davis team, and the Junior team, Margaret Gallaher.
  • Matariki is on Friday, 21 June. Come along and enjoy this special time with a session of bridge starting at 12.45 for 1.00 pm. The rising of the Matariki stars is a time of remembrance, celebration and looking to the future. Please bring some kai to share and, if you can, a plant or some seeds to share with other members. Kia ora!!
  • Improvers sessions are going to start on Saturday, 21st June, 10 am. $10 each session. It will be fortnightly.
    These sessions will focus a lot on play and defence, and we will introduce a few extra systems as well.
    The first session will look at some play techniques and declarer play.

  • Our Open Swiss Pairs and our Junior tournaments were held on Sunday. Congratulations to:
    - Russell Dive and partner Johnny Davidson from Wellington Club who won the Open Swiss Pairs
    - Angus McKay and Peter Hawkes who were 2nd in the Junior Pairs, and
    - Stephanie Grummit and Anne Harland, who won the best Novice pair.
    And many thanks to those members who helped on the day – thank you all!
  • Don’t forget Bring Out Your Best! Our Fashion and Style seminar by our very own Janet Paape, the fairy godmother of Wellington fashion. This Saturday 2 – 4pm, bar opens at 1.30. $20 at the door, bring a friend and a plate. See you there!

    This is a subsidised tournament, thanks to the Ron Fisher Trust, so it is only
    $15 per person. A great deal for a good day out! 4 Hutt pairs entered so far. Come and join them - it would be good to see a strong Hutt field at our very own tournament. Prize also for the best Novice pair - be in to win!
  • Entries are coming in for 5A Open Swiss pairs , which is great to see, Hutt pairs amongst them. Remember, there’s also a prize for best Intermediate pair - be in to win!
  • Helpers needed for our Tournament - Sunday 18 May
    Thank you to all who offer to help. I will be in touch late this week
    - Baking for morning tea. We have a few people bring in some morning tea, but we still need some more morning tea. Hutt has a great reputation for our morning teas.

    - 4 volunteer helpers for the morning shift - 10 am to 11.30 - morning tea clean up, and some prep for the after-match nibbles.
    - 2 volunteer helpers over lunch - 12.30 - 2.00 pm
    - 4 volunteer helpers for the after-match function - from 3.30pm til 5.30 pm - heating up and plating food, organising and serving at the bar
    - Baking for morning tea. Hutt has a great reputation for our morning teas.
