• Kia ora, koutou katoa. It’s Maori Language week. Hello and welcome everyone. With the government announcement on Monday that covid restrictions have relaxed mask wearing is now optional and you may enjoy your tea, coffee and biscuits at the table.
• “Our Plan for Our Future” has been emailed to you. Hard copies are on the notices table, and you can also read it on the website. Please take the time to read this letter. We welcome your input and feedback.
• Tuesday Teams starts in October. This is the club’s only team event so please get your team in. The notice is on the board.
• Round 7 of Interclub is this Friday night. See the noticeboard for the draw.
• Saturday Revision is on this Saturday 17 September at 10:30am in the playing room. Online bridge is on this Sunday 18 September at 7pm.

• Victoria Bridge Club is holding an Intermediate & Junior tournament this Sunday 11 September, entry fee 25 – bring your own lunch.

• Wellington Bridge Club invites you to an evening of bridge with an expert on Friday 9 September. This is suitable for all levels of play. Teams of 3 players are assigned an expert to play a set with each of you.
• The Wellington Sixes tournament is this Sunday 4 September at Wellington Bridge Club. This is a fun day with a mix of grades, each grade only plays players in their own section, so Juniors play against Juniors.
• Victoria Bridge Club is holding an Intermediate & Junior tournament on Sunday 11 September, starting at 10am. The entry fee is $25, bring your own lunch.

• Megan is on leave this Friday 26 August and the office will be closed. There is no Saturday revision this Saturday 27 August. Sunday Social online bridge is on this Sunday 28 August. The cost is $5 & the start time is 7pm. All are welcome – including non-members.
• Super Social Sunday for bridge beginners is this Sunday 28 August at Wellington Bridge Club. If you have learned this year or last year, you are invited to come along to a relaxed, fun afternoon to learn about bridge play. See the noticeboard for more details and how to register.

With the various bugs in the community including the continued presence of covid and the flu, do remember to practice good self-hygiene, especially when you’re at the table and don’t come to bridge if you are unwell.
• Karori Bridge Club is holding an Open tournament this Sunday 21 August and they would like some more entries. Intermediate players are welcome. The cost is $30, byo lunch.
• The first Super Social Sunday for 2022 will be held Sunday 28 August at Wellington Bridge Club. These are organised by Wellington Regional Bridge and are for bridge beginners – players who have completed lessons this year or last year. See the noticeboard for more details.

• Our Intermediate tournament over the weekend was great fun! We had 12 tables of players from around the region including many Hutt members. Thank you to Ryman Healthcare – our tournament sponsor; Phil Revell and Madeleine Askew – our tournament organisers; and all the bakers and helpers on the day who worked tirelessly in the kitchen and behind the bar. Thank you for supporting your club.

  We do need some substitutes for each night in case registered players are not able to play. Please let Megan know if you are available to be a sub. The dates are Thursday 4, 11 & 18 August.

• One of the women’s toilets was broken by a hirer over the weekend. It has an out of order sign on it and should not be used. The toilet will be fixed by our plumber at the hirer’s expense, this Wednesday afternoon.

There are still a significant number of new daily cases in the Hutt Valley and masks are proving themselves as a safe way to play face to face. Please don’t come to bridge if you are unwell and practice good hygiene while at the club. Use the hand sanitiser provided regularly. Please continue to take your tea, coffee and water away from the table so that when in close proximity at the table, all are wearing masks.

Some baking would be most appreciated and if you’re not playing some helpers are required also. The commitment would be 1-2 hours. There is a form on the notices table.
• Thursday: Thursday Swiss Pairs starting 4 August will now run online. You will need to play all three sessions. The sign-up sheet is on the wall.
• Friday: This Friday is a mix ‘n mingle session. Members are encouraged to play with someone different. All are welcome.
