- End of Year Celebration and Prize Giving
This is being held on this Sunday 10 December. The bridge starts at 2.30 pm and the party itself at 5 pm.
Drinks and canapés will be served from 5 - 6 pm and during that time there will be a quick prize-giving ceremony including all series winners being acknowledged.
The afternoon is being hosted by the Committee and is free for members including the first drink.Please sign up on the notice board for the bridge and/or the party to help us make plans for a special club-wide gathering.
Ruth can help you find a partner but, if you do decide on the day to play, just come along in good time and we will sort it.
If you are not free during the afternoon, come along at 5 pm for the party and prize giving to celebrate the wins and a happy year for the Club. - We are very sad to let you know that Linda Canton died last Thursday morning. Linda has been a member of our club for a long time and was very active in many capacities including being a good player. She served on the committee, taught the lessons, and organized the catering for which the Hutt Club was renowned for many years. Please stand to remember and farewell Linda.

- This week’s winner of the Club Fundraising is Raffle Angela Banks and Jill Marsden with lucky number 19 Congratulations to Angela and Jill!
- End of Year Celebration and Prize Giving
This year there will be one main end-of-year function. The Committee is hosting it on Sunday 10 December. Drinks and canapés will be served from 5 - 6 pm and during that time there will be a quick prize-giving ceremony including all series winners being acknowledged. This function will be preceded by an afternoon of playing bridge commencing at 2.30 pm.The afternoon is free for members including the first drink.
The Committee wishes to bring the club members together more often for friendly club-wide gatherings such as these. It is our view that it can only be good for the social aspects of belonging to our club and make it easier for members to meet each other and hence find partners and move between playing sessions. It is part of our plan to grow the club and encourage the retention of new members.

Congratulations to Madeleine Askew, Deirdre Stallinger, Jeffry Craanen and Marian Loader for winning the open restricted grade on Friday night. A very well-deserved win.
Congratulations also to two teams who finished second - the Richardson intermediate team and Bernice Singh’s junior team. It should also be noted that Kathryn (Badcock's?) and Neil Sargisson’s teams finished in the top 9 of 20 teams in the intermediate grade. Thanks go to everyone who has played regularly or subbed for our 8 Interclub teams this year. It’s been a great year all around and we now look forward to 2024. - Saturday Revision is on this week.

- Wave 5 of Covid is with us and we have at least one club member off sick with Covid. Please don’t come to play if you are unwell. Wear a mask if you want to increase your level of protection.
- Congratulations to Marian Loader and Simon Webber who were top East West in the club heat of the Loveblock nationwide pairs on Friday night and to Angela Banks and Jane Godfrey who were top North South in the club heat.

This great event is run throughout the country. Results are produced nationwide as well as for each host club. Each player receives a booklet with commentary on all the hands from NZ Bridge. Cost $15 and the bar will be open. You do need to enter - sign up on the noticeboard or online via NZ Bridge’s website. - No Saturday Revision is on.

The final round for 2023 is on 17 November. - Labour Day Bridge - Monday 23 October 1pm
The last of our public holiday bridge sessions for 2023. Come along and commemorate Englishman Samuel Duncan Parnell who began campaigning for the eight-hour working day as soon as he stepped off the sailing ship Duke of Roxburgh in Petone in 1840.
Best to organise a partner beforehand but, if you decide on the day to play, just come along in good time and we will sort it out. The bar will be open and please bring a plate for a shared afternoon tea. - Tuesday night’s MixnMingle is on Tuesday 24 October.
Come along and try a different session - a bunch of Tuesday players will be scouting for partners for that evening. There’ll be supper and the bar will be open. - Kiwi Cafe around the corner in High Street has joined us as a sponsor. Their menu is on the noticeboard. If you drop in there for coffee or kai, we’d appreciate you mentioning that you are from the Hutt Bridge Club. Thanks!

- Thanks to all those who played for us in the Upper Hutt Challenge on Friday night. It was a great night and Hutt narrowly retained the challenge for another year with a Hutt average of just over 51% with Upper Hutt at just over 49%.
- Special congratulations to Deidre Stallinger and Jeffry Craanen who topped the field with a mighty 70.6%!
- Labour Day Bridge is coming up fast - 1pm on Monday 23 October.

- The fun tournament went well and was enjoyed by all and a good experience for the junior and novice players. Congratulations to the first novice pair Stephen MacAskill and Chris Manson and the winners Robin Hill and Prafulla Hegde
- Tuesday Teams starts on Tuesday, October 3rd. This is the clubs only team’s event. Teams bridge is exciting all teams are welcome and there is a prize for the first junior/novice team. Please sign up on the noticeboard.
- Ruth is away this week. The office will be open Monday to Thursday with shorter hours, all emails and phone messages will be checked and actioned remotely.
- Congress is underway – good luck to all the Hutt players.
