Notices w/c 19 May 2025

  • Our Open Swiss Pairs and our Junior tournaments were held on Sunday. Congratulations to:
    - Russell Dive and partner Johnny Davidson from Wellington Club who won the Open Swiss Pairs
    - Angus McKay and Peter Hawkes who were 2nd in the Junior Pairs, and
    - Stephanie Grummit and Anne Harland, who won the best Novice pair.
    And many thanks to those members who helped on the day – thank you all!
  • Don’t forget Bring Out Your Best! Our Fashion and Style seminar by our very own Janet Paape, the fairy godmother of Wellington fashion. This Saturday 2 – 4pm, bar opens at 1.30. $20 at the door, bring a friend and a plate. See you there!
  • Bridge Lessons start 9 June – first three lessons free! There are still a few places left! Talk to your friends, families and neighbors…
  • Interclub is on this Friday evening, May 23.

  • Hutt Junior Pairs Sunday week May 18
    This is a subsidised tournament, thanks to the Ron Fisher Trust, so it is only
    $15 per person. A great deal for a good day out! 4 Hutt pairs entered so far. Come and join them - it would be good to see a strong Hutt field at our very own tournament. Prize also for the best Novice pair - be in to win!
  • Entries are coming in for 5A Open Swiss pairs , which is great to see, Hutt pairs amongst them. Remember, there’s also a prize for best Intermediate pair - be in to win!
  • Helpers needed for our Tournament - Sunday 18 May
    Thank you to all who offer to help. I will be in touch late this week
    - Baking for morning tea. We have a few people bring in some morning tea, but we still need some more morning tea. Hutt has a great reputation for our morning teas.
    - Please sign up on the sheet on the Notices table, or let Ruth know how you can help.

    - 4 volunteer helpers for the morning shift - 10 am to 11.30 - morning tea clean up, and some prep for the after-match nibbles.
    - 2 volunteer helpers over lunch - 12.30 - 2.00 pm
    - 4 volunteer helpers for the after-match function - from 3.30pm til 5.30 pm - heating up and plating food, organising and serving at the bar
    - Baking for morning tea. Hutt has a great reputation for our morning teas.

  • On Saturday, May 10, at 10am Vil Gravis will give a lesson on team play and tactics. All are welcome – free of charge.

  • Anzac Day at the Club was well attended. Yummy afternoon tea and good fun.
  • At the weekend we also had the Wellington Regional Congress, and Hutt did very well. Congratulations to:
    - David Haines and Stephanie Grummitt, who came 1st Junior Pairs
    - Margaret Carter and Bernice Singh , who came 4th Intermediate Pairs
    - Neil Sargisson, Jacob Pilalis , Peter and Dianna Snethlage , who came 2nd Intermediate Teams
    - David Haines, Sam McDonald, Jeffry Craanen and Eleisha Hawkins, who came 3rd Intermediate teams
    - Jeffry Craanen, Eleisha Hawkins who had best pair datums in the Intermediate Teams
    - David Haines, Ian Pronk who won the best intermediate pair Swiss Pair
    Well done to you all. Go Hutt!!
  • We are having our 5A Open Swiss on the 19 May, $40 entry fee, with a prize also for the best intermediate pair. That same day is our junior tournament – supported by the Ron Fisher trust so only $15 entry, with a prize also for the best Novice pair. We’d love lots of Hutt entries for both events, so why not give a go!

  • We are having Bridge on Anzac Day at 1pm , all are welcome and can you all please bridge a plate to share for a nice afternoon tea. Bar will be open.
  • This year’s NZ Bridge Congress is in Palmerston North – close to home.
    Saturday 8 – Saturday 15 November. Intermediate and Junior events everyday – 10% discount for juniors at their first Congress if they play in at least three events. It would be great to have a good Hutt contingent at Congress this year. Flyers on the table.

  • The Hutt Bridge Club gave Jill Herman a Life Membership. For all her dedication and hard work over the past 24 years.
  • Your new committee includes President Lesley Haines, Vice President Doug O’Halloran, Treasurer James Fulton, and committee members Madeleine Askew, Toni Kana, Kathryn Badcock, and Sharmini Jones, Steve Denholm, Janet Paape.
    The winners for the AGM pairs are North/South Evan Voyce and Jill Herman and East/West Lesley Haines and Simon Grant.

  • HBC AGM Sunday 30 March 5pm
    You are warmly invited to the 59th AGM of the Hutt Bridge Club, which is being held at the Park Avenue club rooms on Sunday 30 March, starting at 5pm. This will be preceded by bridge, starting at 2pm.
    Should you wish to make an apology, please put on the list on the notices table
  • INTERCLUB
    The first round of Interclub was held on Friday night and it’s great to have 11 teams representing the club. Last year we had 7.
    Congratulations to the following teams on their wins:
    - Open Restricted teams captained by Jeffry Craanen and David Haines
    - Intermediate teams captained by Margaret Carter and Jill Marsden
    - Junior team captained by Toni Kane
    The next round is on Friday 4 April.
  • Wellington Regional Bridge Knockout rubber bridge event-2025
    Enter fee is free $1,000 prize money for the overall national winner.
    Entries close on 31 March 2025.
