  • The Club Fundraising Raffle winner is Neil with the Lucky number 23. Congratulations to Neil Sargisson!
  • Masterton Multigrade is on the 29th of October. They would like more entries. They will have a TV in the clubrooms from 8am to watch the final of the World Cup.
  • NZ Wide Loveblock Pairs - Friday, November 10, 7.30pm
    This great event is run throughout the country. Results are produced nationwide as well as for each host club. Each player receives a booklet with commentary on all the hands from NZ Bridge. Cost $15 and the bar will be open. You do need to enter - sign up on the noticeboard or online via NZ Bridge’s website.

  • Interclub Results
    Well done to our five winning teams on Friday night:
    Open Restricted is captained by Madeleine, Intermediate teams are captained by Jill Marsden and Kathryn, and the Junior/Novice teams are captained by Bernice and Toni.
    The final round for 2023 is on 17 November.
  • Labour Day Bridge - Monday 23 October 1pm
    The last of our public holiday bridge sessions for 2023. Come along and commemorate Englishman Samuel Duncan Parnell who began campaigning for the eight-hour working day as soon as he stepped off the sailing ship Duke of Roxburgh in Petone in 1840.
    Best to organise a partner beforehand but, if you decide on the day to play, just come along in good time and we will sort it out. The bar will be open and please bring a plate for a shared afternoon tea.
  • Tuesday night’s MixnMingle is on Tuesday 24 October.
    Come along and try a different session - a bunch of Tuesday players will be scouting for partners for that evening. There’ll be supper and the bar will be open.
  • Kiwi Cafe around the corner in High Street has joined us as a sponsor. Their menu is on the noticeboard. If you drop in there for coffee or kai, we’d appreciate you mentioning that you are from the Hutt Bridge Club. Thanks!

  • Thanks to all those who played for us in the Upper Hutt Challenge on Friday night. It was a great night and Hutt narrowly retained the challenge for another year with a Hutt average of just over 51% with Upper Hutt at just over 49%.
  • Special congratulations to Deidre Stallinger and Jeffry Craanen who topped the field with a mighty 70.6%!

  • We are hosting the Upper Hutt Bridge Club vs. Hutt Bridge Club Challenge for 2023 on 6th October. Help us retain the cup and sign up on the notice board. a complimentary drink will be served. The Event is sponsored by Hutt Pak N Save.

    The Club is open for a special session of bridge during the upcoming public holiday – The Labour Day Pairs to be held at 1 p.m. on the afternoon of Monday 23 October.

  • All the Hutt Bridge club players enjoyed bridge over the last week at the congress and meeting other players from all around NZ and all the different systems they play. We encourage other players to join Congress next year.

  • The fun tournament went well and was enjoyed by all and a good experience for the junior and novice players. Congratulations to the first novice pair Stephen MacAskill and Chris Manson and the winners Robin Hill and Prafulla Hegde
  • Tuesday Teams starts on Tuesday, October 3rd. This is the clubs only team’s event. Teams bridge is exciting all teams are welcome and there is a prize for the first junior/novice team. Please sign up on the noticeboard.
  • Ruth is away this week. The office will be open Monday to Thursday with shorter hours, all emails and phone messages will be checked and actioned remotely.
  • Congress is underway – good luck to all the Hutt players.

  • Interclub:
    Congratulations to Madeleine, Jeffry, Deidre, and Marian on their great win in the open restricted grade games on Friday night. There will be an interclub for all grades this Friday, 15 September.
  • Twelve new players graduated last Wednesday. Congratulations to Grant Herman, Mel Rowe, Suzy Costello, Annette Davidson, and Bernadette. Clarke, David Burt, Wendy Walker, Jim Sutherland, Stephen MacAskill, Falcon Clouston, Lyndsey McKinley, and Cathy Priest the evening was a great success with 16 1/2 tables. While there we sang Happy Birthday to Mario Ceregra who celebrated his 95th birthday on Saturday. Happy Birthday, Mario!
  • Two special events are coming up this month:
  • Friday 22 September is our Friday Mix N Mingle. You can come solo on the day, organize to play with someone you haven’t played with before, OR come with a regular partner. All welcome. The bar will be open.
  • Saturday 23 September starting at 1 p.m. is our second In-House Fun Tournament for 2023. This is a multigrade event with nibbles and a complimentary drink. All members are welcome and there will be prizes for all grade combinations - from novice to open. If you are new to the game, this is a great tournament taster. Juniors and novices are free, thanks to a subsidy from the Ron Fisher Trust, other players are $10. If you want to play, please sign up on the notice board or if you want to play and need a partner, please contact Ruth.

  • Well done to our five winning Interclub teams on Friday night:
    Open Restricted captained by Madeleine Askew, Intermediate teams captained by Kathryn Badcock, Neil Sargisson and Trish Mahoney, and the Junior team captained by Bernice.
    The next round is on 15 September.
  • Congratulations to Phil Revell and Ruth Brucker for winning the Karori Open and
    Congratulations to Doug O’Halloran and Angela Duthie for being the best Intermediate Junior pair at the Upper Hutt Multi-Grade Tournament.
  • A reminder about health and hygiene protocols.
    Last week’s news from the government removing all Covid-19 restrictions increases the responsibility each of us has to be considerate towards our fellow members at the bridge table. Many of us are older, some with vulnerable health. So, please stay home if you are unwell with anything contagious including Covid and other cold & flu symptoms. At the Club, please wash and dry those hands and/or use the sanitizer provided, sneeze or cough into your elbow or a tissue to then be disposed of, and use the biscuit tongs provided. Wear a mask if you need extra protection.

  • Our winner this week of the Hutt Bridge Club Fundraising Raffle with lucky number 8 is AJ. Congratulations AJ!
  • Vil Gravis’ Development Group starts on Monday September 11 at 7pm. Vil will soon be selecting a development group of keen Junior, Intermediate and prospective Open Players to take part in a 10 Session Course. Cost $100 for the course. Everyone who is interested in taking part will be considered, with first preference given to PAIRS who wish to establish a regular partnership. Individuals who wish to take part but do not have a regular partner will be matched with someone of a similar standard, where possible. Individuals who cannot be matched with a partner, or do not want to be, are welcome to pay for the course to attend as spectators and take part in analysis and discussion. If you are keen to take part, please register your interest with Ruth or email or talk to Vil by Friday 1 September.
  • Our defibrillator is available for use if required. We are organising training for some members but in the meantime please follow the straightforward instructions inside the box. Thanks to our very generous members who have funded this.
