Notices w/c 26 June 2023

  • We have a club raffle on the table under the notice board. It is a beautiful pounamu and sterling silver necklace and bracelet, made and donated by one of our members and all proceeds will go to the club. The tickets are $5 each and it will be drawn at our Matariki bridge session, Friday the 14th of July. Only 22 tickets left - get in quick!
  • Quiz Evening
    Is Friday 28th July 7pm and the cost $15.
    We have a new format this year presented by Toni Kane.
    So form your team of 6 and come along for a fun evening. Ask friends and family members to come so we can get as many people as possible.
    Enter your team on the notice board list.
    We would love you donate something for prizes as we have done the past.

  • Dr Ken’s Weekly Draw
    It works like this! There are 40 numbers - each number costs $5 per week. At the end of each week, one lucky number will win $100. The winning number will be whatever the BONUS number is in the Saturday lotto draw. This can be easily verified by all. The other $100 raises funds for the Club.
    The first draw will take place on Saturday, August 5. Buy your lucky number for a year ($260 ), $130 for six months, $65 a quarter, or $20 to $25 a month depending on the number of weeks. Unallocated numbers will be sold week to week.
    If you want to buy a number, please contact Ruth. Numbers will be on sale from 26th June.

  • Improver Online Classes - these are suitable for anybody who knows the basics of the game and is wanting to gain some confidence with conventions or general card play. Sessions are held Tuesday evenings and Wednesday afternoons, starting this week, using a mix of Zoom and RealBridge. $6 per session and you can pick and choose which ones you want to attend.   • On this coming Saturday afternoon the 17th of June at 1.30 pm our one session in-house, fun tournament is on.
    The tournament is aimed at pairs comprising a newer, less experienced player and someone with more experience, but all pairs are welcome! The cost is $10 - there’ll be nibbles, a complimentary drink, and novelty and cash prizes.

  • Interclub - congratulation to Bernice Singh and Madeleine Askew’s and Joan Finley's and Toni Kane's team for their win in interclub.
    Madeleine Askew’s Team is coming 1st in the open restricted grade.
    Bernice Singh’s Team is coming 1st in the junior grade.

  • King's Birthday Monday Bridge is on – We have decided to make it a special day due to the occasion. Please bring a plate for the high tea and wear your crown and jewels as there will be prizes.
    You are welcome with or without a partner. If you come without a partner you will be partnered through a draw.
  • On Saturday afternoon the 17th of June our one session in-house tournament is on. The tournament is aimed at Junior and Novice pairs however other grades are welcome and you are encouraged to partner up with a Junior or Novice player. Nibbles will be served with a complimentary drink.

  • This is a message for all our players. If anything happens at the table that you are not comfortable with or not sure about, please call the Director. Calling the Director is your best option - the earlier the better! Thank you.
  • Congratulations to our three winning teams on Friday night:
    Open Restricted captained by Madeleine, Neil’s Intermediate team, and Bernice’s junior team. I know it is early days yet but great to see Madeleine’s and Bernice’s teams at the top of their respective tables and Elaine’s intermediate team in second place.
    Next round is on 9 June.
  • Monday 5 June – King’s Birthday Pairs
    A Director will be arranged, and normal table money is to be paid. As the playing committees will not necessarily be available, extra help would be appreciated to set up and clean up afterwards.

  • Our Open and Junior Tournament held on the weekend was a success. Thank you to our sponsor Gee and Hickton, and all our helpers and bakers.
    Congratulations to the following winners:
    Winners of the Open Tournament were Nelson Procter and Peter Newell, 2nd place Marion Loader and John Donvaband and 3rd place Jan Whyte and Ken Bateman.
    Winners of the Junior Tournament were Rupet Rokeby-Johnson and Janet Dobbie and 2nd place Peter Hawkes and Jan Marment.
  • Interclub is on this Friday the 19th May – Online links have been sent to the captains.

  • Wednesday 24th May is the Wednesday night Mix and Mingle and the graduation night for our learners. Everybody is welcome a light supper will be served and the bar will be open.
  • It is with sadness that we let you know that Hans Jorgensen passed away on Sunday. Our condolences go out to his partner Sam and mother Diane.
    The funeral is at 11am this Friday at Gee and Hickton Lower Hutt.
