Notices w/c 20 July 2020

  • The first round of Interclub was held on Friday night. Thank you to Jill Marsden and helpers for hosting a fun and successful evening. Congratulations to the following teams on their wins: Open Restricted, captained by Phil Revell; all the Intermediate teams captained by Tracey Mitchell, Simon Webber, Loek Strik & Jill Herman; Junior 2 & 3 captained by Jackie Upchurch and Neil Sargisson; & the Novice team, captained by Bernice Singh.
  • The club is having an in-house raffle. Thank you Stella Edwards for making and donating the little people. These are sitting on the table at the South end of the playing room nearest the Director’s room and may be of appeal to grandchildren. Tickets are one for $2 or three for $5. Please sign the sheet and put your money in the basket.
  • Niagara Green is having a giant plant sale in the East room, this Saturday & Sunday 25 & 26 July from 10am to 4pm. If you are an indoor plant lover or have friends that are can you please spread the word.
  • AJ’s Saturday revision classes are proving very popular. They are on every Saturday at 10:30am in the playing room. All are welcome including non-members. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
  • Week 6 of the lessons next week Monday 27 July will cover the topic: “Responders New Suit Bids”. All members are welcome to attend.
  • Thursday Swiss Pairs starts 30 July. You must sign up to play.
  • Our Hutt Intermediate tournament is on Sunday 9 August. Details here.

  • The recent nasty winter weather has been accompanied by a resurgence of coughs and colds in the community. Please do not come to bridge if you are unwell.
  • Want to brush up or have a niggling question answered? AJ’s Saturday revision classes are on every Saturday at 10:30am in the playing room. All are welcome including non-members. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
  • Week 5 of the lessons next week Monday 20 July will cover the topic: "Balanced Hands". All members are welcome to attend.
  • Our Hutt Intermediate tournament is on Sunday 9 August. Details here.

  • Saturday revision classes are back on starting this Saturday. Want to brush up or have a niggling question answered? AJ’s Q&A session will start at 10:30am in the playing room. All are welcome including non-members. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
  • Wellington Bridge Club are running a 3A Restricted tournament on 26 July. This is the first tournament of its kind in Wellington. It is for players with less than 100A points at the time of the event. This will suit upper level intermediate players and newly promoted Open grade players. See the noticeboard for more details.
  • A service for Janice Butterfield will be held at Gee & Hickton’s Cornwall Manor on Saturday 11 July at 1:30pm.
  • Megan is working from home on Tuesday and Thursday this week and is on leave on Wednesday. Do send emails or leave phone messages as these will be cleared and responded to daily.

  • A lovely afternoon was had at the pre-AGM social bridge session. Congratulations to Vil Gravis and Lynne Bruce for achieving the top North/South result and Candice Ng and Megan Turner for coming top East/West!
  • The AGM was very successful. Thanks go to Ryman Healthcare for another delicious spread. We welcome a new member to our 2020-2021 committee, Loek Strik and retain existing members Kathryn Badcock, Madeleine Askew, and Joan Finley. Raewyn Dowman has stepped down as President with Jill Herman taking up the helm. Steve Graves retains his role as Treasurer.
  • Please help yourself to a cloth bag or jigsaw puzzle outside the office. Thank you to Ray White Real Estate and Ryman Healthcare for providing us with the bags.
  • The lost property box contains some items that have been in there for some time now. Please have a look and remove if they are yours. If they are still there in two weeks they will be thrown out.

  • Moment of silence will be held at each session this week to remember those members who we have lost during the time when the club was closed.
  • The AGM is on Sunday 21 June at 4pm. There will be a bridge afternoon starting at 1:30pm and nibbles and drinks will follow. Please sign up to play.

  • Coronavirus update: The committee is keeping a close eye on Ministry of Health guidelines and recommendations. Please stay away if unwell and continue with usual personal hygiene such as handwashing and using the provided hand sanitisers. We will continue to update you with any developments.
  • AGM: Our annual AGM will be held on Sunday 22 March at 5:00pm. A fun bridge session will be held prior to the AGM starting at 2:45pm. Drinks and nibbles will be provided. All welcome. Please sign up.
  • Lessons: Bridge lessons start Monday 16 March. All members are welcome. The topic for next week Monday 23 March is “One No Trump Openings.”

  • Members of our Club (Andeana Pilalis, Elaine Richardson, Dianna and Peter Snethlage, Phil Revell) formed 6 No Trumps team - the best dressed team of the Wellington Sixes! Congratulations also to Marian Loader who got an individual award for her costume and Nelson Procter who, together with his partner, came 2nd in Open section!
