Notices w/c 03 June 2019

  • The very popular Hutt Quiz night is back, Friday 14 June 7pm. There are two sign up forms on the wall, one to join a team and one if you already have a team. Donations of wine, chocolates and goodies would be much appreciated. These can be left in the box in the foyer. Please support this fundraiser. It is going to be a fun night!
  • The club committee is very pleased to welcome a new member, Jill Herman.
  • Interclub: The draw for round 4 of Interclub Friday 21st June is up. See the noticeboard.

Notices w/c 27 May 2019

  • Wednesday Swiss Pairs starts Wednesday 5 June. You must sign up to play. See the noticeboard.
  • Some important reminders:
    • 1C opening bids must be advised by partner in terms of length and 1NT opening bids must be described by partner in terms of points.
    • You should only explain the meaning of a bid your partner has made if you are asked to by your opponents. It is your opponents’ prerogative to ask about a bid’s meaning. This is because your explanation may alert your partner as to what you think it means and may provide unauthorised information.
  • The office will be closed next Monday 3 June for Queens Birthday. There is also no bridge on Monday so have a fabulous long weekend.

  • Interclub results from Friday night are on the noticeboard. Congratulations to Intermediate Hutt 1 (Simon Webber’s team), Intermediate Hutt 2 (Jill Herman’s team) and Novice Hutt 1 (Neil Sargisson’s team) on their wins.
  • Our Open Junior tournaments were very successful! A huge thank you to Jill Marsden and all the helpers who did the baking and worked in the kitchen and on the bar. Congratulations to Paul Badcock and Bryan Cunliffe who finished third overall in the Open tournament. Congratulations also to Jane McDougall & Merilyn McLaughlin who finished third overall in the Junior tournament.
  • Congratulations to Caroline Strachan & Angela Banks who won the Paraparaumu Intermediate tournament on Sunday 19 May!

Notices w/c 13 May 2019

  • Hutt is hosting Interclub this Friday 17 May.
  • Our Open/Junior tournaments are this Sunday 19 May. We do need more entries for both tournaments so please enter. You can sign up on the noticeboard or enter on-line.
  • We also require more baking please. It is slightly different to the other tournament days we run as we are effectively hosting two tournaments on one day. If you think you can help please write your name on the baking sheet on the notices table. Your support is greatly appreciated.
  • Week 9 of the lessons next Monday 20 May will cover the topic: “Pre-emptive Openings.” All members are welcome to attend.
  • The office will be closed this Wednesday 15 May 2019.

  • Our Open/Junior tournaments will be held on Sunday 19 May. Note to Juniors the entry fee is $15. It has once again been kindly subsidised by the Ron Fisher Trust. Lunch is provided with snacks and a complimentary drink following end of play. Sign-up sheets are on the noticeboard.
  • Can anyone help with baking for our tournaments on Sunday 19 May please? We would appreciate as much baking as possible as we are hosting two tournaments on the day. There is a baking sheet on the notices table where you can note down your delicious offerings.
  • Reminder: Inter-Provincial trials are on this weekend 11 & 12 May. See noticeboard for more details.
  • Week 8 of the lessons next Monday 13 May will cover the topic: “Take-out Doubles.” All members are welcome to attend.

  • Congratulations to Nebojsa Djorovic & Donna Upchurch (Wgtn Bridge Club) who were 2nd overall in the Levin Multigrade on Easter Saturday.
  • Congratulations to Mariusz Tumilowicz & his wife Barbara (Karori Bridge Club) for winning the morning session and coming 1st in the Silver Section of the Mixed Sex Pairs held at Karori Bridge Club on Easter Monday.

  • Interclub results from Friday night are on the noticeboard. Congratulations to Open 1 (Marian Loader’s team) and the Novices (Neil Sargisson’s team) on their wins. Also congratulations to Neil and partner Jacob Pilalis on their second placing in the first session (out of 136 pairs). What an outstanding achievement!
  • Congratulations to the following members who have received recognition from NZ Bridge:
    Philippa Bartlett has been awarded a Certificate of Proficiency
    Neil Sargisson has been awarded a Certificate of Proficiency
    Paul Browne has been awarded with a rank change to Club Master
    With an achievement of 101 A points and 256 B points, John Donbavand has been awarded with a rank change to Master.
  • NZ Bridge is now calling for entries for the Inter-Provincial trials for 2019. If you are selected you must be available to play in Chch on 23-25 November. This year there are four categories for entry which include Open, Seniors (60+ years), Women’s and Intermediate. See the noticeboard for more details.
  • Lessons will take a break next Monday, Easter Monday. Week 5 of the lessons will continue on Monday 29 April and will cover the topic: “Balanced Hands.” All members are welcome to attend.
  • Please note there is no bridge this Good Friday nor Easter Monday. Have a lovely long weekend.

  • Congratulations to Phil Revell & Simon Webber who came 2nd overall at the Victoria Multigrade tournament held on Sunday 7 April. They also picked up a session prize, finishing first in the afternoon session of the tournament.

  • The annual "Poppy Day" is on 12 April this year, well earlier than usual due to Easter falling before Anzac Day, 25 April. The poppy box is on the table outside the Dealer’s room for anyone who wishes to contribute.
