Notices w/c 25 March 2019

  • A lovely afternoon was had at the pre-AGM social bridge session. Congratulations to Vil Gravis and Lynne Bruce for achieving the top North/South result and Raewyn and Martyn Dowman for coming top East/West!
  • The AGM was very successful. Thanks go to Ryman Healthcare for another delicious spread. We welcome a new member to our 2019-2020 committee, Joan Finley and retain existing members Kathryn Badcock, Madeleine Askew, Jill Marsden and Tony Loveday. Raewyn Dowman retains the helm as President and Steve Graves, Treasurer.
  • We hosted the first Interclub evening for the year last Friday 22 March. Thank you to Diana Pratchett and her merry band of helpers for organising the night.
  • Interclub successes - congratulations to our teams who had wins: Open team Hutt 1 captained by Maciej Szczesny, Intermediate team Hutt 1 captained by Simon Webber and Novice team Hutt 1 captained by Neil Sargisson!
  • Can you please make sure you wear your name badge as we have a number of new members and also members moving into playing different sessions.
  • Lessons started Monday 18 March. Topics covered during the lessons will be put in the notices a week in advance. All members are welcome to attend. Next week, Monday 1 April the topic covered will be “opening a suit.”
  • Please note the office will be closed this Friday 29 March and next Monday 1 April.

Notices w/c 18 Match 2019

  • The Wellington Sixes held on Saturday 16 March was won by the Polish Club team with 4 of our members: Andeana Pilalis and Marian Loader were the Intermediate pair and Maciej Szczesny and Mariusz Tumilowicz were the Open pair (ended up 2nd in their category). They were joined by a Junior pair formed by Barbara and Tymek Tumilowicz. Congratulations to all of them!
  • Congratulations to our member Phil Revell and his partner Ruth Brucker (from Wellington club) - the session winners from Paraparaumu Open held on Sunday 17 March!
  • The AGM will be held on Sunday 24 March at 5.00pm. A fun bridge session will be held prior to the AGM starting at 2:30pm. Drinks and nibbles will be provided. All welcome. Please sign up, the form is on the West side noticeboard or please contact the Club Manager.
  • We are hosting Interclub this Friday 22 March. We need one more volunteer please to help with the evening. Your help is required from 8pm until 11pm and tasks include serving tea and coffee and serving refreshments post play. If you can help it would be most appreciated. Please write your name on the sheet on the notices table.
  • Lessons start Monday 18 March. Topics covered during the lessons will be put in the notices a week in advance. All members are welcome to attend. Next week, Monday 25 March the topic covered will be “opening one no-trump.”
  • Just a reminder that people need to arrive and be seated 15 minutes before play, especially if you have seating rights. Also please remember you must announce your partner’s one club and one no-trump opening bids.

  • The date for the AGM is confirmed as Sunday 24 March at 5pm. A fun bridge session will be held prior to the AGM starting at 2:30pm. Drinks and nibbles will be provided. All welcome. Please sign up, the form is on the West side noticeboard or please contact the Club Manager.
  • We are hosting 5 Interclub sessions this year, the first of which is on Friday 22 March. The other dates are Fridays 17 May, 19 July, 20 Sept and 15 Nov. We need three volunteers please to help with each evening from 8 until 11pm. Tasks will include serving tea and coffee and serving refreshments post play. If you can help with the first one and/or any of the other Interclub sessions can you please write your name on the sheet on the notices table and tick the dates that you are available.

  • Gee & Hickton Hutt Multigrade is on Sunday 3 March. More details here. We would very much appreciate your help with baking. A baking sheet is on the notices table in the playing room.
  • There are still a large number of lessons flyers to deliver. We need your help in distributing these around your area. Street maps and highlighters are on the table. Please highlight the streets you will deliver pamphlets to.
  • A sign-up sheet for the Tuesday night Swiss Pairs starting 5 March is on the noticeboard. Remember, you must sign up to play please.

  • Congratulations to our Hutt members Nelson Procter and John Donbavand for winning Waikanae Open Tournament last Sunday 10 Feb 2019!
  • Hutt Bridge Club has a new Facebook page. You can access it by going to facebook.com/huttbridgeclub or clicking Facebook icon at the top of the Hutt Bridge Cub website. Club's Facebook page is regularly updated with posts, photos and events so make sure you like it and invite your Facebook friends to like it as well!
  • Thank you to everyone who has paid their annual subscription for 2019. The due date was 31 January. If you have not paid your subscription yet we would appreciate your attention to this as soon as possible please.
  • Directors training for 2019 begins on 23 Feb. This year two different Directors training courses will be presented. One is a short 3 lesson course aimed at those who do not wish to take the exam but are interested in helping out with directing at their home club. The second is the full course which prepares candidates for the NZ Bridge Club Directors exam to be held later in the year. See the noticeboard for more details or visit our Facebook page.
